Legends of Rakhi

In mythology times, on the full moon of the all important month is considered to be a very holy day after the battle between the goddess and the demons. The demons won the battle and capture Amravati, the capital of Indra. As a result, Indras wife was saddened because of the loss in the battle.

Therefore, she prayed to the almighty and prepared a sacred thread which she tied on the wrist of her husband. It is believed that the thread protected Indra and he won the battle to regain his kingdom from the demons and protected Amravati.

 The mythology says when Krishna faced injured in the battle, Draupadi tied in a strip of cloth around Krishna’s wrist to the stop of bleeding from his wound. She tore that piece of cloth from her outfit. The incident touch of Lord Krishna so much that he declared her as his sisters and to protect her from all the possible danger.
Yama and King Bali
An ancient time, lord Yama is the lord of the Yamuna is the name of a river in the northern India is Yama’s sister. Mythology says that the Lord Yamuna was tied the tie of Rakhi to him and prayed for his immortality, impressed by his sister’s love towards him. He started that whenever anyone’s sister will tie Rakhi to her brother’s wrist and pray for his protection than that person will receive the blessings of being immortal.

Maharani Karnawati and Emperor Humayun
            According to Hindu mythology, the incident of happened between the Rani Karnavati of Chittor and Mughal emperor Humayun. Rani Karnavati sent a Rakhi to emperor Humayun when she was afraid of the invasion by emperor Bahadur shah. But the act of Humayun was late Bahadur shah had already invaded and to keep her honor. She along with the other women committed Jauhar although Humayun staying true to his promise was able to help Rani Karnavati’s son and restored the kingdom with her son Vikramjit Singh being made for the new king.
King Pours and Alexander’s wife
Alexander was resisted by the brave King Porus. It was when Alexander’s wife doubted her husband’s safety, sent forth a Rakhi to king Porus and therefore he withdrew from fighting with Alexander. This act of Alexander’s wife also makes famous the sacred festival of Rakhi.
